The
Healthful Benefits of Eating Organic Raw Foods Vs Processed Foods
I
recently stumbled upon a diet that has resulted in weight loss.
Imagine that! I had been a vegetarian for 15 years only to climb
in weight. This new way of eating is based on my metabolic type
and I am a mixed type. Some may be protein types or carb types.
To find out what type you are, I recommend you visit this website
for a free mini test or purchase "The
Metabolic Typing Diet: Customize Your Diet to Your Own Unique Body
Chemistry" book by William Linz Wolcott, Trish
Fahey. The book describes in detail about what foods you should
eat for your type. A Metabolic Type is the inherited pattern of
genetically-based strengths and weaknesses in the body’s fundamental
control systems. Although tens of thousands of chemical reactions
take place in your body daily, they are all regulated by a handful
of control systems, such as the Autonomic Nervous System, the Endocrine
System, the Oxidation Rate, etc.
In my search for eating the correct foods, I discovered many of
the foods that I ate were mainly processed like bread, pasta, and
grains, which were contributing to my weight gain. It became a fact-finding
mission in my quest to know more. I then found Dr.
Mercola's website, since he is also an advocate
for the metabolic typing diet. He really takes nutrition to a higher
level. Basically, after reading the numerous articles he has on
his site, my diet has drastically changed since my vegetarian days
and weight loss has become a reality. My diet consists of organic
grass fed beef, organic chicken, raw cow's milk, raw cheese, raw
butter, and organic raw vegetables/fruit.
Typical Meals for the Day
Breakfast: 2 eggs (lightly cooked since cooking
destroys the valueable nutrients) with cucumber, mushrooms, tomato,
onions, and raw cheese
Lunch: 1 slice of Ezekiel bread with oragnic mustard,
cucumber, tomato, onions, and raw cheese slices
Snack: 2 pieces of Celery with oragnic peanut butter
(small amount)
Dinner: 1 piece of chicken (I alternate every other
evening with 1/4 lb. of red meat) and eggplant or squash cooked
in a turbo oven. A salad with diced cucumber, tomato, and onions
topped with balsalmic vinegarette dressing and grated raw cheese.
To stave off late night hunger before bed: Cup
of raw milk (with whey protein powder sold by Mercola) and a little
banana to sweeten. Mixed with a hand blender.

Highly recommended! Deepak Chopra Center Endorsed. Email me for
more info on this great product.
I began this diet on October 1, 2007 and weighed 155 lbs and 5'
7" in height. I am now 125 lbs. as of Feb. 1, 2008 and I have
continued to remain at this weight.
Where to Buy?
I purchase my meats at Whole
Foods Market since they offer organic and grass fed
beefs. I will also shop at Sprouts
as they have more reasonably priced produce. Look up a local farmers
market in your area for organic produce which will be more affordable
than your local heath food stores. The Turbo Oven
can only be purchased online from Walmart, Target, or
Dr. Mercola. It's very efficient (cooks in
half time) and uses less electricity than your oven.
What are Raw Foods?
Raw Foods are foods that contain enzymes that assist in
the digestion and absorption of food. In general, the act of heating
food over 116 degrees F destroys enzymes in food. (Enzymes start
to degrade in as little as 106 degrees F). All cooked food is devoid
of enzymes, furthermore cooking food changes the molecular structure
of the food and renders it toxic. Living and raw foods also have
enormously higher nutrient values than the foods that have been
cooked.
When you stop eating cooked protein foods which require
large secretions of stomach acid (which is not healthful for several
reasons) our stomach doesn't produce much stomach acid. Many people
who eat raw foods eat a low protein diet and are free from the stomach
acid secretions and have much more energy and a lighter disposition.
Why eat only Organic Foods?
When juicing or eating foods, it is very important to choose to
consume only organically grown produce. "Conventional"
produce are grown with pesticides, herbicides, synthetic fertilizers,
and other chemicals that are toxic and/or harmful to your body.
Organic foods are grown without the use of these harmful substances,
taste better, and are more nutritious.
Do I need to eat all organic to be raw?
No, you do not NEED to eat all organic to be raw. I recommend eating
as much organic food as possible. Organic produce contains less
pesticide and other toxic residues. Also, it has been shown that
organic food may taste better and contain more nutrition. I believe
its better to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables in any case.
The
Benefits of Raw Milk
November
30, 2007
People have enjoyed
the wide array of milk products for over 10,000 years, such as fresh
milk, buttermilk, clabber, curds, whey and a variety of cheeses.
These products were never pasteurized. Americans have been inundated
with information for the past 70 years about pasteurized milk that
was inaccurate. There was a time when pasteurization may have prevented
certain pathogenic bacteria, introduced through poor handling techniques,
from being transferred in the milk to the consumer. However, it
was not a 100% guarantee. The success of pasteurization afforded
mass milk producers milk with a longer shelf life, resulting in
higher profits.
Pasteurization not only destroys harmful bacteria, but it also destroys
beneficial bacteria. These bacteria are vital to a healthy digestive
system and need to be replenished. Also, studies have shown that
before heating, milk is a living food rich in colloidal minerals,
vitamins, and enzymes necessary for the absorption and utilization
of sugars, fats and minerals in the milk. For example, milk has
an enzyme called phosphatase, which allows the body to absorb the
calcium from the milk. Lactase is an enzyme that allows for the
digestion of lactose. Once heated, milk becomes rotten, with precipitated
minerals that can't be absorbed (osteoporosis), with sugars that
can't be digested (allergies), and with fats that are toxic. People
that consider themselves "lactose intolerant" are able
to enjoy raw milk because it contains "lactase." Normally
it would predigest the milk while in the stomach and allow the body
to take in nutrients. Pasteurization forces the milk to enter the
lower intestines undigested, resulting in cramps and gas.
According to the Weston A. Price Foundation, "Pasteurization
destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin content, denatures fragile
milk proteins, destroys vitamins C, B12 and B6, kills beneficial
bacteria, promotes pathogens and is associated with allergies, increased
tooth decay, eczema, colic in infants, growth problems in children,
osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer."
Today, modern handling techniques and local farm care eliminate
the need for pasteurization. Pasteurization was adopted as a remedy
for milk issues when low-grade milk was being produced by "swill
dairies" that fed their cows the by products of whiskey making.
The malnourished cows were not able to create milk that would normally
fight off pathogenic bacteria. Matters only got worse as milk was
collected in open containers and sometimes handled by people who
were ill. No wonder the milk made people sick. Poor milk quality
also arises from cows fed on a high protein feed made from soybeans
and other unacceptable foodstuffs. Rarely is anyone allergic to
grass-fed cow's milk.
Obtaining raw milk can be difficult depending on where you live
since some states have laws against selling it in stores. When looking
for a local dairy that produces raw milk, make sure the cows are
healthy and fed on a diet of quality organic feeds like alfalfa
hay and barley or grass that is chemical free. The cows should be
free of hormone therapies and antibiotics. Most dairies should have
closed collection systems, which insure the milk goes straight from
the cow into a clean chilling tank. Local milk should go from the
cow, to the bottle, to you. To find raw milk and see if it is available
in your state, visit realmilk.com.

article on "Why
You DON'T want to drink pasteurized milk".
The Road to a Healthier Way of Eating
Processed Foods
Some foods
provide more nutrition and health benefits than others. These include
whole foods, vegetables, fruits, and lean meats. Processed foods are
not good for you as they contain hydrogenated and trans fats, and
much less nutrients than whole foods or foods in their natural state.
Almost all foods that come out of a box are processed in someway.
Long-term consumption may contribute to disease and ill health. Foods
that provide no nutritional value include diet soda and candy etc.
Sugar
People are misled by deceptive nutritional labels and general lack
of knowledge of where the hidden sugars are. Americans eat far more
sugar than they know. When looking at labels for sugar content, you
must also look for high fructose corn syrup and dangerous artificial
sweeteners. They are in a variety of foods that you might not normally
suspect.
Sugars cause hormonal changes that lead to overeating. Most carbohydrates
that are found in processed foods, such as white bread and rice, break
down to glucose and affect your body in the same way as refined sugar
does.
Any meal or snack high in carbohydrates or sugars generates a rapid
rise in blood glucose. To adjust for this rise, your pancreas secretes
the hormone insulin into your bloodstream, which lowers your glucose
(sugar) level. Insulin is essentially a storage hormone, which is
used to store the excess calories from carbohydrates in the form of
fat. Insulin, stimulated by the excess carbohydrates in overabundant
consumption of grains, starches and sweets, is responsible for all
those bulging stomachs and fat rolls in thighs and chins.
High insulin levels suppress two other important hormones glucagons
and growth hormones that are responsible for burning fat and sugar
and promoting muscle development, respectively. So insulin from excess
carbohydrates promotes fat, and then wards off the body's ability
to lose that fat.
Excess weight and obesity lead to heart disease and a wide variety
of other diseases. The ill effects of grains and sugars do not end
there. They suppress the immune system, contributing to allergies,
and they are responsible for a host of digestive disorders. They contribute
to depression, and their excess consumption is, in fact, associated
with many of the chronic diseases in our nation, such as cancer and
diabetes. Hydrogenated
Fats
Next, you’ll want to gradually eliminate your intake of processed
foods. Most people consume far too many processed foods in their diets.
These include any food that comes packaged and ready to go such as
TV dinners, instant waffles or pancakes, packaged meals, boxed lunches,
etc. All of these foods typically contain hydrogenated fats to help
extend their shelf life. Over time, too much hydrogenated foods can
contribute to heart disease and arteriosclerosis. Your body will work
more optimally the fewer processed foods you eat.
The journey to eating the raw organic foods way may be difficult and
requires a commitment, but in the end it is well worth it.
