My Wellness Journey
When I was 39 I decided to embark on this fitness journey to rid myself of flabby problem areas. I was tired of looking skinny fat. In high school, I was quite active in track and volleyball, but after I graduated I didn't exercise at all. I was eating whatever I wanted without gaining weight. I then began my job as a graphic/web designer which required many hours in front of a PC which didn't help my figure. Over the years I maintained a weight of 125-135lbs., but at age 35 I gained and peaked at 160lbs (photo on right). I became a vegetarian at 18 yrs. old and ate tons of pasta, breads, and sweets. I continued to gain and I thought I was eating healthy. I researched to find a solution to stop my weight gain and it is mainly my diet. Diet is very critical to weight loss and you need to know what to eat, how much, and when to eat.
I was never the type of person that enjoyed exercising. I once believed the notion that every woman gains weight after 30, but it isn't true and you can change how you look and more importantly how you feel even at 42! My workouts consist of cycling 3 times a week (M,W,F) and I use a battle rope on the other 2 days. The Battle Rope (12 exercises using rope) is a High Interval Intensity Training (HIIT) workout which is a very effective workout. You work harder, but in less time and you burn more calories than most cardio workouts. I use the ropes for 30 seconds and give it my all and then 1 1/2 minute of rest.
